A holiday is time to enjoy yourself, relax and escape from everything. Do you still eat healthy? When you’re on holiday, you’re eating pattern is different. Your regular routine is replaced by calming down and sometimes you even eat things you’ve never tasted before. It’s great to taste local specialties and enjoy all these new experiences and flavors. On a winter holiday, it could happen that you’re gaining weight, even though you burn so many calories daily during skiing or boarding on the slopes. How come? Do the math, if you eat more calories than required, you’re gaining weight. Also on a holiday, you can wisely choose healthy meals. With a light breakfast and a well thought through healthy pick for lunch (skip the bread) in the berg restaurants, not too much alcohol during après and drinking enough water, you’ll be just fine. Chill and relax, if you can.

Healty dishes and the best spareribs at Vider Alp restaurant Ischgl
The Vider alp restaurant lies almost 2,300 metres above sea level and offers a stunning view over the valley. Eat your heart out with their wide range of Tyrolean specialties. Try the healthy salads like the mixed, green or cabbage salad. Together with a homemade clear beef broth soup with homemade sliced pancakes (Frittatensuppe) or goulash soup, Tiroler Gröstl roast potatoes with pieces of meat, fried egg and cabbage salad, oven baked, homemade lasagne and your healthy lunch is complete.
Does your holiday partner want to go for something other than healthy food?
The kitchen is known for their classic spare ribs and I can confirm that they are really tastefull (or go for their famous Vider Alp hamburger ;)).
Vider Alp ski chalet specialties for the toboggan evenings
And if you’re in for a fine Tyrolean chalet party, the restaurant is open for dinner on Monday and Thursday night, when the night-time toboggan run of Ischgl is open. Choose their cheese fondue and you won’t be disappointed.

Good food at Swiss restaurant Schmuggleralm with sun terrace in Samnaun
Healthy soups, salads and many traditional other great dishes….. When you’re skiing from Ischgl to Samnaun, at the end of the red slope 80 (Duty Free Run to Samnaun), on your right hand there’s an amazing sun terrace with Swiss local specialties. Take a seat and enjoy your coffee or lunch at restaurant Schmuggleralm. A cozy, rustic atmosphere and to a culinary offering traditional home cooking with international specialties combined.
Something less healthy but oh so delicious?
Try the Samnauner cheese fondue, it’s absolutely amazing, made with white wine, garlic, Kirschbrand, nutmeg and bread crumbs. You can even order nice add ons.

Salads, fish, vegetables, local bio meat and the best Kaiserschmarrn at bergrestaurant Idalp Panorama
Idalp offers a wide variety of dishes in their service restaurant on the top floor. Their menu has a lot of healthy and vegetarian meals to choose upon, they even serve breakfast between 09.00 and 10.30 hours. For lunch and late afternoon diner, think of small treats for gourmets, warm treats, soup, pasta, classic roast with meat mainly from local farms, and sweet temptations. On a sunny day, it’s wise to ask for a table on their sun terrace. The heaters will keep you warm when it’s snowing. Make sure in high season you reserve a table in advance, it’s a very popular in the centre of the Ischgl ski area. My pick (look at the image on instagram) at Idalp, the Putensalat „Romana“,Sautéed turkey strips placed on a bed of Romana salad, with a delicious herb marinade.
Something less healthy but oh so delicious?
Ever tasted the typical Austrian dish Kaiserschmarrn? They describe it like: browned omelette, vienna style, with apple puree or plum sauce. For fresh and homemade Kaiserschmarrn I highly recommend especially restaurant Idalp, the kitchen makes it a la minute and it’s worth waiting for 20 minutes. Trust me 😉 Served in the panorama service part of the restaurant on the 2nd floor.
